LMS-Based Simpli cations to the Kalman Filter Multiuser CDMA Detector

| This paper proposes modiications to the Kalman lter-based multiuser code-division multiple-access (CDMA) detector of 1] based on the normalised least mean square (NLMS) lter, the motivation being complexity reduction. The variable step size and information reuse concepts are investigated. The proposed detectors are compared with the conventional and Kalman lter detector in terms of complexity and simulated BER in both the synchronous and asynchronous environments. Of the modiied NLMS lter-based detectors investigated, the detector with backward information reuse stands out as a possible replacement of the Kalman lter detector in the asynchronous environment due to its signiicantly reduced complexity and only slightly inferior BER performance.
